Women's Education Initiative and Outreach

The Community Education Program offers free Social Educational groups through our Women’s Education Initiative. This is an opportunity for women (primarily Female IDU’s and Female partners of IDU’) to learn about HIV/AIDS, their own sexuality and how to reduce their personal risk of infection. This Project is supported by the Department of Public Health. The groups take place in private homes, group homes, shelters and here at our agency. Through these meetings we are reaching groups of women and presenting harm-reduction information. Basic Risk assessments are conducted to assist in identifying risk and need referrals.

Another aspect of the Women’s Education Initiative is Street outreach, conducted in the streets of Worcester.  Health Education staff hand out risk reduction materials such as condoms and bleach kits. Each kit referral has information for HIV Testing and other referral services. Risk assessments are also conducted to help individuals assess their risk. Then supported referrals are made to the appropriate services.

Nightclub outreach is also provided under the Women’s Education Initiative. Teams go to area nightclubs and conduct risk assessments and hand out risk reduction materials.

If you would like more information on having the Women’s Education Inactivate come to your location or club. Please call 508-756-7123 and ask for the Prevention and Education Coordinator.
