GAY SUPPORT SERVICES
What Is MPOWER?
Mpower is a program offered by the Community Education Program of Health
Awareness Services for Men who have sex with men and are between the
ages of 18-30(ish). Education and social opportunities are provided to
assist in living a healthy lifestyle. This program is offered with the
support and funding of the Ma Department of Public Health.
Mpower is broken down in into 3 components.
A weekly meeting takes place at the Health Awareness Offices. The topics
and agenda of the meeting vary each week. Some weeks it will be a movie
night, other weeks will consist of guest speakers, and other nights will
be educational
topics.
Small social groups happen about once a month. This groups participants
meet for social opportunities like coffee, bowling, movies, cookouts and
other gatherings. The number is kept small to assist in fostering
relationships.
Large social group are held two to three times a year. This larger
social group has activities such as dances or concerts. This provides
participants an opportunity to interact with a larger number of other
Gay Bi-Sexual.
How do I Join?
Joining is easy. Just call Health Awareness Services at 508-756-7123 and
ask for the Community Education Program and one of our trained staff
will help you through the process.
You will be encouraged to attend one of the weekly meetings, and meet
the other participants. The meetings take place on Tuesday Evenings from
630pm
to 8pm at the Health Awareness offices on 405 Grove Street in Worcester.

The weekly group is a safe low-key environment that allows young Gay and
Bi-sexual men the opportunity to explore and learn from others what is
like to be gay living in the Central Massachusetts area. The groups are
facilitates by trained Peer Educators and Community Education Program
Staff. In each groups topics are discussed on areas like: disclosure,
stigma, dating, STDs, Partner notification, substance issues and other
related topics. Many of the topics are requested by participants them
selves.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality is an important issue to the Community Education
Program. Your name is not reported or given to any one or any other
agency.
Other Services
Internally we offer:
- HIV Counseling and Testing
- STD screening and treatment
- Educational Services
- Case Management Services
- Safer Sex materials such as condoms and lube
- Partner Counseling and Referral services
- Referrals for other needed services
